Summer break is just three to four weeks away. Here are two free sports programs that might interest your family:
Reds Rookie Success League - Choose Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month of June (June 7 - July 1, 2010). This is "a co-ed, character-building, introductory baseball/ softball camp for kids 6 - 12 years old." The camp is three hours, 10 AM to 1 PM, each day. " Participants will receive a character-based curriculum as well as fundamental baseball instruction from volunteer coaches and Reds players and coaches." Lunches are included with participation as are a Reds Rookie Uniform and a field trip to Great American Ball Park for a Reds Game. The camp is sponsored by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, Boys & Girls Clubs, Cincinnati Public Schools and the YMCA. They are also looking for 50 coaches and mentors to volunteer for the program.
First Tee of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Golf Program - One of four sites in the area is Winton Wood's Meadow Links. This summer program is free and available to kids ages 8 - 18. "The First Tee wants everyone who completes The First Tee Experience to have acquired basic golf skills and to be able to demonstrate certain fundamental life skill concepts – such as interpersonal communication and the importance of rules and etiquette." Instruction for the beginner's level, Player & Par, will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 AM - 1 PM, June 22 thru July 13. For any who complete the Player & Par level, the Birdie program will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 AM - 1 PM, July 20 thru August 12, 2010.
