The Son of God movie is coming out on Friday and tickets are already being bought for the masses. In a very unique way the movie that hasn’t been overly hyped in typical outlets is looking at a solid box office opening even before the first showing. According to Christian Post on Tuesday, the Mars Hill Church is offering free tickets for parishioners to bring a friend who might not attend church. The congregation has 15 different churches in five states and are expecting to give away 3,500 tickets.
There are other campaigns for the Son of God movie as well. Church groups around the country are organizing small parties of church members to go to the theater over the weekend to watch the movie together and then talk about it afterwards in a group setting. One church in Arkansas is cancelling church and instead everyone is meeting in the theater to watch the movie.
There has been some questions if Son of God will have a strong opening on Friday when it hits the theater. Our question is how big of a blockbuster will this movie be? The grassroots campaign of this film is bigger than most highly campaigned movies. Plus people are talking about this movie at one of the most sacred places in America.
The Son of God focuses on the life of Christ, from birth to crucifixion to resurrection. The feature is a follow up of the highly successful The Bible mini-series on the History Channel last spring.
