Free smog check and repair event this Saturday

Car owners in the San Joaquin Valley can save some money this weekend by taking advantage of a free smog check and repair event. Part of the San Joaquin Valley APCD's Polluting Automobile Scrap and Salvage (PASS) program, the "Tune-In & Tune-Up" event will be held at the Fresno Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To be eligible, you must be a resident of the San Joaquin Valley and have owned your car for more than six months. Participants will be provided a free smog check for their car, and, if it fails, a voucher worth up to $500 that can be used for repairs at participating smog repair shops. The latter is limited to the first 525 vehicles that don't pass the test.

Although no smog certificates will be issued, the event offers a free way to determine if your car needs repairs to pass the test and a way to pay for those repairs.

Free food and drink will also be available while supplies last. A schedule of future events, including one in Bakersfield, may be found here. For more information, please contact the APCD's program partner; Valley Clean Air Now at 1-800-806-2004.
