Free Slurpee Day is here and 7-Eleven will offer one of their famous frozen drinks today, as July 11, 2014 is their 87th birthday. Once a year on the 7-Eleven store birthday, the folks who invented the frozen delight offer a free Slurpee day. According to USA Today on July 11, 7-Eleven started the free Slurpee offer on their birthday back in 2002 and it has been a yearly event since then.

The Slurpee has been in the 7-Eleven stores for 49 years as of this year. The store first started selling their frozen carbonated drinks back in 1965. The franchise has sold seven billion Slurpee drinks to date, which is enough of these drinks for everyone on this planet to enjoy this frozen delight.

The offer of a free Slurpee is good all day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at participating 7-Eleven stores. You may notice something different this year, as 7-Eleven stores are offering their ¼-pound Big Bite® hot dog on Friday, July 11 for $1 as part of the birthday celebration, according to CBS News Philly.

The Slurpee comes in a variety of flavors, one to fit mot everyone's taste, according to "Fox and Friends" live on Friday morning. This includes some of the major soft drink brands of sodas like Coke and Mountain Dew. They also offer Cherry, Raspberry, Watermelon and the list goes on.

The free Slurpee offer is no different from past years. You don't need to make a purchase and you don't need a coupon, you just walk into the store and get a free small Slurpee. With the hot dog going for $1 today, you can have your dog and a free drink, which makes lunch only a buck today!

7-Eleven is offering a small free Slurpee to anyone who walks in the store while supplies last during the hours of this free promotion. This year the famous corner store is offering free specials the entire week until Saturday July 19. Every day there will be a different item that the store is offering for free to its customers:

Saturday, July 12: Big Gulp® soft drink
Sunday, July 13: M&M’s Birthday Cake Flavor candies
Monday, July 14: Grandma’s Cookies
Tuesday, July 15: Hostess Twinkies
Wednesday, July 16: Snickers or Twix brand ice cream bar
Thursday, July 17: Quaker Chewy Yogurt snack bar
Friday, July 18: Pillsbury cookie
Saturday, July 19: Small Slurpee drink

To receive each day’s free offer, you must download the 7-Eleven app and register. Then when you come into the store you open the app and your coupon code is the barcode that you need to show the cashier to get the free item that day. The cashier will scan the barcode on your app and that will give you the item for free.

Somehow this sounds a bit complicated and one can just imagine what the lines will look like as customers are trying to bring up the app for the free item. Who knows, maybe it will be stream lined and work to the store's advantage. It will be interesting to see. One thing for sure, people love free giveaways so this promotion should be a popular event.
