Free Shipping Day returns Wednesday December 18

Last minute holiday shoppers might want to take note of an online service that guarantees delivery by Christmas Eve and free shipping.

Hard to believe? Well look no further than, billed as a “one-day, online-shopping event when thousands of merchants offer free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve. The sixth annual Free Shipping Day will be December 18, exactly one week from Christmas Day.

The brainchild of founders Luke and Maisie Knowles, Free Shipping Day generated more than $1 billion in cyber-sales the past two years and sales were reportedly higher than Black Friday’s online spending by $250 million two years in a row. Another interesting tidbit the website revealed was that Free Shipping Day became the third-heaviest day for online shopping in U.S. history just two years after it first launched.

At this time, just 816 merchants have signed on for this year’s event but more are expected to sign up tomorrow, the day before Free Shipping Day or chose not to reveal themselves until December 18. Among major retailers set to go include Ace Hardware, Radio Shack,, Zappos, Kay Jewelers, Nordstrom, North Face, ONeill, Sony, Samsung and PetSmart.

Free Shipping Day offers will be revealed at 12:01 a.m. EST on December 18 and only items listed on the official website qualify for free shipping.
