Thanks to Film Independent, there's a free screening of Valley of Saints at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live downtown. Reserve your complimentary tickets here.
Written and directed by Musa Syeed, Valley of Saints is a lush 82-minute film set in Kashmir that premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival. When war and poverty force a young tourist boatman to run away with his best friend, a military crackdown traps them in Dal Lake's surrounding community. One of the men falls for a mysterious woman, who threatens this boyhood friendship and their plans to escape. Set in the endangered lake communities of Kashmir and shot during the military curfew depicted in the video above, Valley of the Saints blends fact with fiction to introduce audiences to a world that is rarely seen. Watch the preview here.
Following the film, there is a Q&A with Musa Syeed, producer Nicholos Bruckman, and Spirit-award nominated cinematographer Yoni Brook.
Be a saint and go.
