October 26, 2011 - You are invited to a free screening of Mexico's official selection to the 2012 Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category, Miss Bala, directed by Gerardo Naranjo.
Miss Bala will premiere on the West Coast as part of the AFI FEST 2011 presented by Audi. The Hola Mexico Film Festival (HMFF) is proud to support this screening that will take place at 8:30 PM on November 4th, 2011 at the Egyptian Theater located on 6712 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028. Mexican director Gerardo Naranjo will be in attendance to introduce his third and most anticipated film.
Miss Bala tells the frenetic story of Laura, a pageant hopeful who is drawn against her will into the incredibly violent world of modern Mexico's drug cartels. Stephanie Sigman (Laura) gives a stunning performance as the woman swept up by forces beyond her understanding. Using extended single takes for some of the story's more dramatic and violent turns, the film transport us into Laura's adrenaline-fueled odyssey with starting immediacy. With some of the most startling and jarring images seen onscreen this year, this is one of the most daring Mexican films made in recent memory. As the real-world horrors of Mexico's drug wars continue to fill the news. Naranjo's film feels more relevant and pressing than ever. Haunting and elegant, Miss Bala is an urgent work that simply cannot be missed.
Free tickets for this screening can be obtained online at www.AFI.com/AFIFEST and at the festival’s Box Office located at Hollywood & Highland Center, 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Ste 219 starting tomorrow Thursday October 27.
