Aviation World along with the Village of Bensenville announced they are presenting two free screenings of the aviation movie 'Flyabout' this weekend, January 15th and 16th. The screenings are being held at the Bensenville Theater at 1:00 p.m. on both days. The theater is located at 9 South Center Street, Bensenville, IL. All movie, documentary and aviation enthusiasts are welcome.
'Flyabout' is described as a 'personal story about a pilot's journey around Australia. It is the story of a young woman growing into an adult and coming to grips with how generational roles change over time.' The pilot in the story, and the creator of the story, Monika Petrillo, obtained her pilot's license at the age of 24, followed a year later by her father obtaining his license as well.
Together, they set off on an adventure that led to the documentary. Along with the rest of the group, they began a journey to circumnavigate the Australian continent. The group consisted of eleven people, of which Monika was the only female. Throughout their travels, the group experiences some of the most spectacular views, interactions with the aboriginal people and exposure to the many cultures present across Australia.
The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with Monika Petrillo for all attendees to ask questions of the filmmaker and pilot.
A review of the film will be presented in this column following the screenings as well as an interview with the filmmaker.
From the flyer, 'Flyabout is the heartfelt, personal story of a young woman who gets a pilot's license and inspires her father to do the same. Together with him, she follows her dream to fly a plane around the continent of Australia. Her introduction to the Aboriginal Walkabout brings on the realization that piloting the plane won't be the hardest part of the trip.'
