Omar Afra and his team at Free Press Houston have announced the lineup for Summerfest 2011...and just added a headliner that's sure to draw a huge crowd of people and proceed to blow their minds: Beirut. Singer and songwriter Zach Condon started recording music when he was fifteen and has released stellar material in the form of two albums and five EPs, with another full-length to be released this year. His sound has proven to be more exotic and original than most in the "indie" scene, and is largely derived from his love of European music.
Other awesome talents gracing Buffalo Bayou this year include Ween, Yeasayer, Cut Copy, Weezer, Big Boi, Bun B, Z-Ro, HEALTH, Tobacco, Girls, Indian Jewelry, and many, many more. If the last two years are anything to go by, Free Press will show us a sweaty, fabulous time with Summerfest and their continual quest to bring indie music back to Houston.
Free Press Summer fest will be held June 4 and 5 at Eleanor Tinsley Park downtown. Three types of passes can be purchased here, with general admission at a sweet price of just $35 for two days.
