Free or low-cost mammograms in the Los Angeles area

Experts report that with early detection, 97% of breast cancers that have not spread beyond the breast can be successfully treated, so early detection is a crucial part in the fight against the disease.

Along with monthly breast self-exams, a yearly mammogram is recommended for women over the age of 40.

Without health insurance, the cost of a yearly mammogram can be prohibitive for many women, putting their health - and lives - in danger.   But there is help.  The  Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance, a grass-roots, non-profit organization was founded in 1992 with the intention of eradicating breast cancer through education, advocacy and community involvement.  The LABCA website offers information, support and a list of local programs and facilities that offer free or low-cost mammograms
