Palo Alto Medical Foundation has introduced new online resources for teens and preteens, designed to provide comprehensive health information for teens, preteens, and their families. These free sites are available to everyone, even if you do not use the PAMF medical services.
The site for teens, called "We're Talking", covers general health topics as well as timely topics such as emotions, risk taking, drugs and alcohol, and healthy relationships. The site also has an anonymous tool to examine and get feedback on beliefs and behaviors related to alcohol.
The site for preteens, called "We're Talking, Too", contains topics related to a changing body, emotions, feelings, and interests.
The site also includes links to the Wellness Assessment for Youth to Get Organized (WAY2GO) online wellness assessment tool. There are three separate age-specific WAY2GO tools for ages 9-12, ages 13-17, and ages 18-25.
According to the PAMF site, ""We're Talking!" was developed for Teens by the Adolescent Interest Group (AIG) of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF). The similar group, "We're Talking, Too!" was created to focus on Preteen problems. Both groups are composed of PAMF physicians, social workers, educators, and researchers concerned with addressing the health care needs of adolescents."
Make sure you tell your teens and preteens about these sites so they can explore health and wellness information next time they are online. It beats watching the latest cat video!
