Free online courses potential is outside the U.S.A

American students can choose online or on campus courses. Students choose on campus classes for many reasons. The reasons could range from the need to associate with the instructors, departments or institutions, cost of college education, and flexibility.

The situation may be changing. Many private businesses are currently planning to offer online college courses. The need for these businesses is driven by high cost of education and perceived flexibility.

Educators are uneasy about the rapidly changing college education delivery methods. Professors’ uneasiness about the current trend is understandable. Many new college students require remedial courses each year.

It is unclear how these students will handle the online courses and the future of traditional campuses and research. Unless these students are given on campus opportunities, it is quite possible their success is limited.

The free online courses have great potential especially for improving the quality of education in developing countries where access of books is limited.
