This Saturday, September 28th is Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day, where more than 1,500 museums in the country are offering free admittance thanks to Smithsonian Magazine. This is the ninth consecutive Museum Day sponsored by the magazine and all 177 Smithsonian Affiliate museums are included. The Smithsonian mission is for people in the US to enjoy a glimpse into our dynamic heritage and cultural life – for free. It’s a fantastic idea. Take the kids, your partner, go with a friend or even by yourself.
Locally, there are some very worthy museums to visit this Saturday participating in this program. Among them are the gorgeous Legion of Honor, Cartoon Art Museum, and de Young Museum in San Francisco; Sausalito’s Bay Area Discovery Museum; the Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa; the Napa Valley Museum, Vallejo’s Naval Museum; the impressive Blackhawk Automobile Museum and the San Jose Museum of Art. Some of the Sacramento area museums in the program include: the Aerospace Museum of California, California Railroad Museum and the California Museum. Check with other museums who may have signed up at the last minute.
One important note, all visitors must have a printed ticket for free entry. To obtain one, go to this website for your free ticket to participating museums. www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/ticket
