"Why People Believe Weird Things" - An Evening with Michael Shermer

Michael Shermer is a psychologist, a bestselling author, publisher of Skeptic Magazine, and founder of the Skeptics Society (http://www.Skeptic.com/). In this lecture, based on his book "Why People Believe Weird Things," Shermer examines such diverse topics as homeopathic medicine, UFOlogy, Creationism, Lie-Detector testing, tarot cards and astrology, and many others. In addition to discussing the truth (or lack thereof), Shermer also delves into the psychology of belief, and how people can fool themselves into accepting things without much evidence.

Free parking in Lot “K”, plus free copy of “Skeptic” magazine given out to all who attend!

What a great talk! Shermer spoke to a sizable crowd last night, and brought some much-needed skeptical perspective to town. Let's hope the Freethinking Society at CSUB keeps hosting these lectures! We can use more critical thinking these days!
