Once upon a time, few opportunities were available to girls who wanted to play sports. There weren’t many female sports teams and women weren’t offered college athletic scholarships. Then in 1972, times changed with the introduction of Title IX, which, among other things, enforced equal access to sports for women and required that resources were devoted to women’s facilities, supplies and funding.
So in honor of this milestone, join the University of San Francisco women’s basketball team on Saturday, March 2nd for a Title IX celebration. From 12:00-1:30 bring your kids to the free Kids Fair on Benedetti Diamond to participate in team activities with USF athletes from all varsity sports. After that, head over to the gym to watch the Lady Dons play Loyola Marymount at 2:00 p.m.
Youth 12 and under are free but you need to reserve your tickets by tomorrow, March 1st by calling 415-422-2873 or emailing dmgardner@usfca.edu.
And don’t forget to tell your kids what you’re celebrating – especially the little one in pigtails.
