Free iPhone apps worth downloading today start with the iPhone, iPad app, “The Island” (Reg. $4.99), as Apple suppliers are beginning iPhone 6 production, according to an April 1 report in “Reuters”.

The free iPhone app, “The Island: Castaway”, (Reg. $4.99) is an addictive simulation game where a player tries to stay alive on a remote desert island, after surviving a boating disaster. Besides learning to catch fish and eat edible plants, players discover mysterious clues and puzzles that may lead to a way home. This app has twelve exciting locations, more than 200 quests and lots of plot twists and turns.

The screen of the upcoming iPhone 6 (tentatively named the “iPhone Air”) will reportedly come in two versions, a 4.7-inch screen size and a 5.5-inch screen size. Both versions of the iPhone 6 will also be thinner than the iPhone 5s. The different iPhone screen sizes will allow Apple to address different market segments, the way Apple has done with Apple's iPod lineup (by offering different iPod capabilities). Production of the iPhone 6 is slated to begin in May with Japan Display being the first of Apple's iPhone suppliers to start manufacturing the new device.

One of the most popular free apps for iPhone today is a quirky but fun game called “Ferris Mueller's Day Off” (Reg. 99 cents). In this free app game, a mule, named “Ferris” decides that his life's racing by so he must go out live his life before he misses it. Your aim here is to find “Ferris” and bring him back to town, where he's missed. This game has lots of puzzles, interesting characters, funny dialogue and different locations.

“The Island: Castaway” requires iOS 5.1.1+ and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. “The Island: Castaway HD (Full)” is also free and can be downloaded from the iPad-only section of the App Store.

“Bunt: The MLB Digital Baseball Trading Card Game” requires iOS 7.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Calorie Counter & Weight Loss” by SparkPeople requires iOS 7.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Ferris Mueller's Day Off” is rated 12+ for sexual content and nudity, references to alcohol, tobacco and drug use and mild violence. This free app requires iOS 5.1+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.
