Free iPhone apps, iPad too, as free new app fights jet lag

Free iPhone apps, compatible with iPad, that are worth downloading today, start with a free iPhone app called “Entrain”, according to an April 12 report in is a website that reports on health and medical gadgets.

The free iPhone app “Entrain”, created by researchers at the University of Michigan, helps travelers fight jet lag and adjust to different time zones by influencing a person's internal sleep-wake cycle. The sleep-wake cycle is an internal body clock that controls a person's biological activities over a 24-hour period.

Because bright light and darkness influence our sleep-wake cycle, this free iPhone app works by asking what time you normally go to sleep and wake up—and what kinds of light you normally experience (there are four choices: low indoor, bright indoor, low outdoor, bright outdoor). The app then creates a sleep-wake schedule for you to follow based on your iPhone's default time zone (which you can alter in “Settings”). This free app also works on iPad.

“Phone Drive” (Reg. $1.99) is a free iPhone app today that lets you use your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as a portable, wireless, Flash drive—instead of buying an individual USB Flash drive. With this free app you can view, manage and store files on your iPhone or iPad by connecting to a Mac or PC through a Wi-Fi network. You simply drag and drop to transfer files.

The hottest new game being downloaded today is “Dungeon Quest.” In this free iPhone RPG app, you search for random loot in dungeons, each guarded by a Boss. With 200 levels and an ability to equip a player's warrior or wizard with customizable weapons, there's lots to do in this game. What's more, each dungeon is unique so players never fight in the same environment twice.

Also popular today is “Animal Planet Hide & Seek Pets” (Reg. $3.99), which is free today in another big app deal. This free iPhone app is an educational game for children 3+ that brings six cute pets to life. Here children practice critical skills for kindergarten required by Common Core standards.

“Phone Drive” by Eightythree Technology is rated 9+ for mature themes and requires iOS 4.3+. This free app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Dungeon Quest” is rated 9+ for violence. This free app is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.
