Free iPad, iPhone apps worth getting today begin with the game app “Aerena” as a new iOS 8 leak indicates that Apple is upgrading music playback in iOS 8 to high definition (HD), according to a May 13 report MacRumors (referencing Mac Otakara). iPad and iPhone devices that are currently using iOS 7 are unable to play high definition tracks.

In perhaps a development related to Apple's rumored purchase of Beats, a new leak says the Apple is adding high-definition (HD) playback to iOS 8. iOS 8 is a new operating system for the upcoming iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 as well as past versions of these models. If past practice is any guide, Apple should present iOS 8 at the WWDC 2014 keynote address on June 2.

Players mix a potion to create a character that has the players' voice. Players then can interact with the character and mix other potions to change how the character looks, acts and sounds.

“OneThing” (regularly 99 cents) an iPad, iPhone app is free today. This app increases a user's productivity by helping he or she stay on task—a goal that becomes increasing challenging with all of life's interruptions. Included in this free app are a calendar and timer.

Free today, “Recordium Mini” (regularly $2.99) is a recording app created for iPad and iPhone that lets users customize the size and quality of recordings—as well as highlight a track while playing or recording it. This app is very useful for students and other note takers.

“Aerena – Clash of Champions" is free to download at the App Store. Currently this free iPad, iPhone app is facing server load issues due to a stream of new players.

“Talking Lab HD” is rated 9+ for cartoon violence. This free app requires iOS 3.2 or higher and is compatible with iPad.

“OneThing – Focus on the important work, Pomodoros Timer, To-Do” requires iOS 7.0 or higher. This free iPad, iPhone app, is compatible with iPod touch and is iPhone 5 optimized.

“Recordium Mini – voice recorder, highlight memos & note taking” requires iOS 7 or higher. This free iPad, iPhone app, is compatible with iPod touch and is iPhone 5 optimized.
