Free income tax filing for greater Cleveland residents

Tax season is upon us. Many of us have received our W-2's and income statements or will be in the coming days. Free tax filing assistance is available online, over the telephone, and in person. These services are provided by the IRS in conjunction with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE).

Taxpayers can call 1-800-829-1040 toll-free for personal tax issue assistance, and 1-800-829-4933 for business related tax issues. If you require in person assistance help is available at our local Taxpayer Assistance Center, located at 1240 East Ninth Street Cleveland, OH 44199. Their hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Taxpayers can call 216-522-4048 to make an appointment although walk-in service is available.

Be sure to bring the following items with you to the Taxpayer Assistance Center:

  • Proof of Identification
  • Social Security Cards for yourself, spouse, and dependents
  • Birth dates for yourself, spouse, and dependents
  • Wage & income statements
  • Bank info for direct deposit
  • Total paid for daycare and providers tax identification number.

If you plan to file a joint married return both spouses must be present to sign required documents.
