It's that time of the year where parents and soon to be graduates are looking at and filling out FAFSA's (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and looking towards their college choices. For Juniors now is the time to explore so that their college applications can be submitted and for seniors it's time to get serious about your continuing education. But what are your choices? The Houston National College Fair can help you and your children find out what their options are and what decisions they need to make next for their future.

The Houston National College Fair is a free event for students and their parents to attend. It is a program of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and is scheduled in Houston for Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Reliant Center. A list of attending exhibits is available online.

While attendance is free, registration is recommended in order to provide students with the best experience possible as well as some one on one higher education counseling. To attend first register online, print your bar code identification. At the college fair it will be scanned so your access for counseling can begin.

The National College Fair provides parents and students with the opportunity to work together to navigate what can be quite often a very confusing and competitive college admission process. The fair allows students and parents to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities. Participants will learn about:

  • admission requirements,
  • financial aid,
  • course offerings, and
  • campus environment,
  • as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process.

At the fair’s counseling center, students and parents can discuss their individual needs with college experts.

In Houston the National College Fair has historically attracted over 300 colleges and universities and over 5,000 Houston-area students and parents. The National College Fair program is in it's 42nd year and annually helps more than 675,000 students and families nationwide explore their options for higher education, making it one of the most visible college recruitment tools in the country. NACAC currently sponsors National College Fairs and Performing and Visual Arts College fairs in 79 locations across the country.
