Free H1N1 flu vaccines available Thursday, November 19th in Peconic

The H1N1 flu shot is available this Thursday, November 19th between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 pm at the Southold Town Recreation Center on Peconic Lane in Peconic.

Registration is not required and there is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine. The vaccines are being made available by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

The following high risk groups are being given priority for the H1N1 vaccine:

  • Pregnant women
  • People between the ages of 6 months and 24 years
  • People aged 25 – 64 with chronic medical conditions
  • People who care for infants under 6 months old
  • Health care and emergency services personnel who care for the sick.

In other health-related offerings, the Mattituck-Laurel library has free hearing testing by Audiologist, Dr. Barbara Prestano from Peconic ENT. This takes place on the 1st Monday of each month from 1-3 p.m.It’s open to all ages, and no pre-registration is required.

Also at the Mattituck Library, health insurance counseling for seniors and other Medicare eligible persons will be held the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1:30-3 p.m. Free individual, confidential, accurate information, counseling and assistance with the maze of our increasingly complex healthcare systems. This program is administered by the Suffolk County Office for the Aging. Appointments can be made by calling the Library at 298-4134.

At the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport, La Leche League meets on Tuesday, November 17th 2009 at 10:30 AM. The planned topic is 'The Family and the Breastfed Baby' but please bring what ever other topic you may want to discuss as well. The December 15th, meeting will cover, The Art of Breastfeeding and Avoiding Difficulties.

San Simeon nursing home is opening its newly renovated east wing. The open house is Saturday, November 21 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. For information, call 631-477-2110
