It’s that time again – time for the KidsCare Family Expo at the Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. As always admission and parking are free.
Sponsored by the New Cumberland Federal Credit Union, all the proceeds of this event go to help the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Every year folks have the opportunity to paint a positive, uplifting message on banners that are then sent to the children at the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. Shriners Hospitals for Children are for children under 18 years of age in need of care for orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palates. Patients are treated regardless of the families ability to pay and patients receive care in family-centered environments. There are hospitals throughout North America and Mexico
Children attending this event are encouraged to bring their pennies to donate to the special penny jar that will be given to the child patients at the hospitals. Also upon arrival families will want to sign in and register their kids for any of the classes (e.g. magic, juggling) that are offered in the classrooms. These fill up fast so you want to arrive early if your kids plan on attending classes. At this time kids will also be given tickets that gets them a free hotdog and drink in the lunch area.
Exhibitors have tables with crafts for the kids to create. Each child is asked to make two of each craft-one for themselves and one to be sent on to the hospitals to brighten the rooms of the children. While you move from table to table the Zembo Shrine clowns will be walking around entertaining as well as making balloon animals for everyone.
On the stage in the main auditorium the schedule will be as follows:
• 9:00 a.m. Puppet Show
• 10:00 a.m. Magic Fun
• 11:00 a.m. Children’s Singer
• 12:00 p.m. Juggling Fun
• 1:00 p.m. Hummel Miniature Flea Circus
In addition to all of this, there is a CHIP ID program (including videos of your children to better identify them), Build a Buddy, face painting, and more. Parents don’t forget your cameras – you’ll want to snap photos of your little ones in the Shriner mini-cars as well as on the motorcycles. Although adults have to pay for their lunches the prices are very low and you can rest easy knowing that your money is going to help a good cause. In addition to hotdogs there are burgers, popcorn, sodas, water, etc.
Anyone planning on attending the Zembo Shrine Circus (March 20-24, 2013) may also purchase tickets to that at the ticket booth at the front door.
The Zembo Shrine is located at 2801 North 3rd Street in Harrisburg at 3rd and Division Streets. Parking is in the shrine parking lots along 3rd Street. For more information please click here.
