Free fruit growing book download

Taunton Press is offering the first chapter of a new gardening book, “Grow Fruit Naturally: A Hands-On Guide to Luscious, Homegrown Fruit”, by Lee Reich, as a free download in PDF format. The book covers 31 kinds of fruits and berries (some are tropicals) and covers selecting, planting, growing, pruning and harvesting.

The first chapter is “Planning Your Fruit Garden”, and includes using fruit trees as beautiful landscape additions (we don’t all have space for a dedicated orchard), the space needed for different fruit trees and bushes, how micro-climates work so you can push your zone, preventing heat and cold damage to your fruit trees, explains the difference between self fertile plants and those that need a separate pollinator tree, diagrams male, female and perfect (those with both male and female parts) flowers, and a chart of the yields you can expect from your mature fruit tree/bush, so you can figure out what you need for your family.

The author has written several gardening books including “The Pruning Book” and “Landscaping with Fruit”. His own garden has been featured in “Martha Stewart Living”.
