As foreclosures continue to spiral, over 200 scam organizations have risen to prey on desperate homeowners with the promise of refinance and loan modifications disguised to rake in exorbitant fees and offer, little, if any relief.

Many parishioners in our diocese have been targeted and have already fallen victim. That's why the Diocese of Orange and Mater Dei High school have joined to host a day of foreclosure prevention workshops.

Next Saturday, July 24, those in danger of losing their homes can receive assistance from HUD approved agencies---housing counseling, lenders and non-profit legal counselors. They can immediately meet with lenders on premises and be assigned a HUD advocate to help them with their lender even even if it is not at represented at the event.

Those seeking help need to bring:
-a copy of their most recent mortgage statement;
-a copy of of their most current pay stubs;
-a copy of their last two year W2s; and
-a detailed list of monthly expenses.

Please note that only home owners whose names are actually on the mortgage can be assisted. The diocese is asking that home owners do not send third parties on their behalf.

Worskhops will be held at Mater Dei High School's LeVecke Center at 1202 W. Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana. (Zip code is 92707 for you who MapQuest(R).)

English session with be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Registration at 9;30 a.m.)
