I have been to The Great Lakes Science Center before, but I have never seen anything like this! No, the space shuttle did not land there; although they have an extremely awesome exhibit about that as well as the International Space Station. What looked like thousands of people descended upon The Great Lakes Science Center this past Saturday, February 22nd. Thanks to The Cleveland Foundation's donation, admission was absolutely free yesterday all day long. The movies with Omnimax were also free or had discounted rates depending on the movie.
When I arrived yesterday afternoon, there were wall-to-wall people everywhere. It looked like a rock concert had just dropped off all of its fans at the Center. Every exhibit and science show was crawling with kids and their parents looking to learn something new and have fun doing it. The restrooms were so congested that maybe the staff almost thought of bringing out the real space potty. Most of the lockers were filled with visitors' belongings as well. It was truly something to experience. I was going to try to get up close and personal on some new attractions at The Great Lakes Science Center. Unfortunately, I was unable to unless I wanted to call Mission Control to drag me out of there once I got inside. Okay, no more references to space travel. :)
Seriously, though, thank you to The Cleveland Foundation for giving this tremendous gift to many Cleveland residents who had not thought about going to the science center before especially due to financial reasons. I hope that they had fun either on their own and/or with their kids, relatives, and friends. I will be back to cover some new attractions up close in the near future.
