Free flu shots for Collin County on January 11, 2014

Collin County’s Medical Reserve Corps will be giving free flu shots for those that are ages 6 months through 64 years old. From Noon – 4:00 pm on January 11, 2014 at the East Plano Community Center free flu shots will be available while supplies last. The East Plano Community Center is located at 1890 Avenue K in Plano, Texas.

The 2013 – 2014 Influenza season began on September 29, 2013 and the illness continues to rise above normal levels. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services through the latest report for week 52 in Texas:

Statewide influenza-like illness (ILI) activity continues to increase and is above baseline levels. Influenza activity is high. All Texas Regions have reported laboratory confirmed influenza, and the percentage of specimens positive for influenza is over 10%. ILI intensity is high, and influenza is widespread in Texas.

During President Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, all of the United States citizens were asked to volunteer to help support America. The resulting outcome was the National Medical Reserves Corps that expanded into communities across the nation.
