Free firearms class for teachers

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, 300 teachers in the Rocky Mountains took a free firearms class. The class was offered by Colorado's largest grassroots organization, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

The four hour class focused on firearm safety and handling, and Colorado gun laws, similar to a concealed carry class available to the public. The RMGO site offers locations for training, information on concealed carry, and gun control. The site also offers the option to sign up for updates on gun legislation and "bill watch."

This class comes in the wake of school shootings where students, teachers and staff were killed without a method of protecting themselves.

A bill to allow teachers to carry (with permission from local school boards), Colorado Senate Bill 9, was voted down on a party line vote on Jan. 28 by the Democrat Senate committee. This takes the decision of protecting students out of the hands of local schools and puts it into the hands of politicians in Denver.
