Fans of independent films have a gem of an opportunity on Austin’s east side. A free film series, called Cinema East, is offering free outdoor screenings of indie films this Sunday, August 22, and Sunday, September 5.

The film series has been under way since June, but it’s not too late to get in on the action. Cinema East takes place at Baby Blue Studio, a drive-in style lot located at 1522 East 12th St. This Sunday, August 22, the film Earthling, directed by Clay Liford, will be the featured film. On September 5, the film will be Trinidad, directed by Austinite PJ Raval.

The doors open for the event at 8 p.m., and the screening will begin at 9 p.m. Food and beverages will be available from vendors such as Karibu Ethiopian Restaurant, Mama’s, Frank and Daily Juice, and those over 21 can BYOB. The screenings are all ages.

Seating is limited and is first-come, first-served, so attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
