Free Senior Day at The Aquarium of the Pacific

The Aquarium of the Pacific will be holding its annual Senior Day for those 50 and over on Friday, September 6, 2013. This is a great event with special exhibits for seniors including booth displays by the Aquarium’s volunteer services’ education, and animal husbandry departments. This is a great event for those who enjoy photographing aquatic life and also enjoy visiting Southern California's finest tourist attractions.

Please note that if you are planning to capture images with your camera it’s better that you use your settings for low light and not bring professional equipment like tripods and flashes. The aquarium will be free for anyone 50 years of age and above, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Costs for others are $25.95 adult (12+), $14.95 child (3-11), and free for children under age 3 and Aquarium members.

Jazz at LACMA

Friday, September 6, 2013 at 6:00 PM the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the Los Angeles Jazz Society will present the 5th annual “L.A. Jazz Treasure Award” to composer, arranger, and big band leader Johnny Mandel. His fantastic career features arranging for big bands including: Count Basie, Zoot Sims, Woody Herman, and Chet Baker. As a vocal arranger, he has written for Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Shirley Horn, Diana Krall, Barbra Streisand, and Nancy Wilson. Mandel has received five Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for his song “The Shadow of Your Smile.” This is a free event.

Free entrance to LACMA

Saturday, September 7, 2013 wear your cooking apron to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) during the day and get free admission into the galleries. Wearing your apron goes along with the cooking theme for the Fifth Annual Good Food Pie Contest, hosted by radio station KCRW is being held at 2:00 PM on September 7, 2013. For pie tasting tickets, guests are asked to find the KCRW Welcome Table in Hancock Park just north of the Ahmanson Building. Tickets are limited based on the number of entries and will be given to guests on a first-come, first-served basis. This should be a very fun and tasty end to the summer, where you can capture some stunning images of the art in the galleries along with some good-looking pies.

Free Meet & Greet at the Skylight Studios

Meet & Greet series at Skylight Studios Annenberg Space for Photography this Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 1:00 -3:00 PM is free to the public. In June, the exhibit called “Who Shot Rock & Roll” (A Photographic History 1955 – Present) featured photographer Norman Seeff along with others. He takes part in a new Meet & Greet series at Skylight Studios. He has worked with hundreds of artists including: Tina Turner, Ray Charles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Joni Mitchell.

During this Saturday's Meet & Greet, Seeff will give a multimedia lecture, using his remarkable archive of film and video to illustrate his photography sessions with so many notable artists.

Attendance is free. Seating is first-come, first-served. Skylight Studios is located across the park from the Annenberg Space for Photography.
