Join us for two free admission events on Saturday, April 16 at the Kentucky Exposition Center’s sister facility, the KFC Yum! Center, to celebrate Thunder Over Louisville, the nation’s largest annual fireworks show that is the official opening ceremonies for the fun-filled Derby Festival. Thunder Down Under The Bridge and Kentucky Ale Thunder on the Plaza will allow patrons to enjoy the festivities from the city’s newest multi-purpose arena located on the banks of the Ohio River in the heart of downtown.

Kicking off at noon is Thunder Down Under The Bridge, which will be located directly under the Clark Memorial Bridge on Second Street adjacent to the KFC Yum! Center. In the summer 2010, this space underwent a $3 million transformation by the city and state to enhance its public use and make it more pedestrian friendly. This free event will offer Thunder goers and families an area to relax and purchase food, beverages and beer while enjoying live entertainment throughout the day. Music will begin at noon with a performance by John Gage and Jeff Guernsey, followed by the Leigh Ann Yost Trio, Lazy Eleven and Hit Men. Each act will play for approximately two hours with all musical entertainment concluding at 8 p.m. that night.

The Kentucky Ale Thunder on the Plaza area will offer a chill out zone and craft beer garden including the Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company’s own Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale also beginning at noon on the Norton Healthcare Plaza beneath the KFC Yum! Center video marquee on Main Street between Second and Third Streets. This free area will also feature food and beverage for purchase with seating and shade provide by Kentucky Ale. Porta-lets will be available for use by Kentucky Ale Thunder on the Plaza patrons. Blankets and chairs are not permitted in the Kentucky Ale Thunder on the Plaza area.

The KFC Yum! Center video marquee will also showcase the day’s festivities including the Thunder Air Show at 3 p.m. and the captivating 28-minute fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Food and beverage for both events will be provided by Centerplate, the exclusive food service provider of the KFC Yum! Center.
