Part of the joy of owning a home on Cape Cod, whether it's a summer cottage or year-round residence, is decorating it with authentic design elements created by Cape Cod artists and craftsmen. On Thursday, September 2, some 15 of the Cape's most talented and creative craftsmen who create custom items for the home will be on hand to display their creations and provide design ideas at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This free event is hosted by Polhemus Savery DaSilva Architects Builders of Chatham. The "Meet the Artists" reception is complimentary and no reservations or tickets are necessary.
The artists will have samples of their work and be available to discuss potential home projects in a casual setting. Several pieces will be staged to suggest ideas and inspiration for incorporating pieces into an actual room. Complimentary wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be provided.
The participating craftsmen and artists are among those featured in the "Sourcebook of Architectural and Design Elements Handcrafted on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket," created by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and partners. The book includes metal work, concrete, clay, handmade furniture, tile, fabrics, stone fireplaces, hand blown lighting fixtures, custom sinks and much more. The book is available for purchase on the Chamber's website.
Among the craftsmen who will be on hand at the event are Steven Kemp from Kemp Pottery in Orleans; Rick Moran of Moran Woodworks in West Barnstable; Daniel Santos of Daniel W. Santos Fine Furniture in Cummaquid; glass artist and sculptor Donna Mahan of Donna Mahan Studios in Truro; Rick Jacobson of Round Cove Woodworks in Truro; metal sculptor Sydney Ahlstrom of Orleans; Michael Magyar of the Glass Studio on Cape Cod in East Sandwich; Step Semple of Semple Glass Studio in Cummaquid; Gretchen McPherson of The Nature of Mosaic in Marstons Mills; Susan Davies of Susan Davies Custom Tile and Fine Art in Sandwich; sculptor Alfred Glover of Alfred Glover Studio in Cataumet; and Jenny Fragosa of the Chasz Gallery in Hyannis. Textiles and products from Karin Ganga Sheppard of Island Weaves on Nantucket and Patricia Walker of Walker Tapestry & Textiles in Brewster will also be on display.
