Sister Helen Prejean, author of the book Dead Man Walking, will lead a book signing tonight at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, from 6-9pm. Sponsored by the Tattered Cover Bookstore, the event will also feature a screening of the book's cinematic adaptation, starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.

Dead Man Walking is a gripping, intimate tale surrounding Sister Helen's experience advising a convicted murderer on death row. The story weaves her interactions with the killer. the families of the two teenaged victims, and the men charged to carry out the execution process. It takes readers on a journey inside capital punishment and presents a fresh, though at times gloomy, insight into the death penalty system.

In addition to the main event, the Central City Opera Ensemble Artists will also hold a performance.

The signing/screening event has free admission to all who attend. Copies of Dead Man Walking will be available to purchase, or attendees can bring their own.

This event is recommended only to those of 18 years and older.
