Chicago is known for its world class museums. There is the Art Institute of Chicago with their renowned collection of Impressionist paintings. The Field Museum, Chicago’s famous museum of natural history, has everything from mummies to dinosaurs, including Sue, the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton ever found. The Shedd Aquarium, one of the oldest and largest aquariums in the world and America’s first planetarium, Adler. The interactive exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry include an intact German submarine and a ride to the bottom of a coal mine.
The one drawback with these great museums and attractions is they often come with a fairly steep admission price. $15 adult admissions and $10 for kids means a family of 4 can easily spend $50 or more just on basic entrance fees. Luckily most of these fine institutions have free basic admission days, for Illinois residents anyway.
