Crochet baby cocoons are a great alternative gift idea for a newborn baby. Many crochet baby afghans and outfits for baby showers but a crocheted cocoon will come in handy for a new mom.
There are several available crochet cocoon patterns available in many yarn colors, styles and thicknesses. The cocoons are especially nice for winter babies but help keep summer babies warm and comfortable also.
The cocoons remind us of papooses that Indian women use to carry their babies in. The cocoon is crocheted working from the bottom up to the top, and is easy to crochet.
Here are a few of our favorite and free crochet cocoon patterns.
