Spring has sprung, the sun is out and Häagen-Dazs is celebrating by closing the cash register and handing out free ice cream.

As Bay Area residents face the possibility of record-breaking heat today, Häagen-Dazs is bringing back Free Cone Day. More than 160 shops from 27-states nationwide are expected to participate in the giveaway.

Scoops will be handed out for four hours this evening, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. There is only one shop to pick up your freebie in San Francisco, Westfield San Francisco Centre. If you are roaming in the East Bay, there is also a shop at the Sun Valley Shopping Center in Concord. If you are headed out, bring a friend to wait out the long lines.

Last year more than 200-thousand cones were given away.
