Calvin College is known for its unique concerts. The October issue of Revue even has an article on, who they call, the Musical Master behind it all, Ken Heffner. When asked about what he looks for when he's booking a band he says, "Telling the truth, even if there's no words, and even if the truth's not pretty." For a while now the college has been unable to book larger bands because of their remodeling to the Fine Arts Centre. This may have worked out better for us frugalists.
On October 7th you can catch Derek Webb and Sandra McCracken at the Calvin College chapel. The show will start at 8 pm and the best part is that there is NO CHARGE for admission! They are both traveling for the Swim in the Sea tour right now. If you'd like more information on this event you can call 526-2682.
If you're not familiar with either of these two singer / songwriters you can listen to their music ahead of time for free. Each of their websites offer you a free sample. Just type in your e-mail address and zip code. You can also listen to Sandra's music on myspace for free. Derek can also be found on myspace.
Calvin College is located at 3201 Burton St. SE and you can find a map of the campus on their website. This will help you find the chapel for the concert. Be sure to get there early. This is bound to be a big show even if it is a little venue.
