Free Comic Book Day is the first Saturday in May and this year (2014) it falls on May 3rd. What is Free Comic Book Day? This exciting event is exactly what it sounds like – you get free comic books! In fact, there will be 60 free comics from which you can choose. And this isn’t just for kids; adults can get free comics, too.

All you have to do is visit a participating comic book shop anywhere in North America or even around the world on this one special day and ask for your free comic books. Each store will have several special comic books that you can choose from. Here is a sampling of the titles that will be available: Teen Titans Go, Power Rangers, Hello Kitty, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers vs. GI Joe, Spongebob, DC’s The New 52: Futures End, and others.

What? You don’t know where your local comic book shop is? Log on to and enter your zip code. Your nearest store will be displayed.

Free Comic Book Day started back in 2002 as a marketing effort to attract new readers; it’s coordinated by Diamond Comic Distributors, the largest single distributor in the industry. This year, Stan Lee (yes THEE Stan Lee, the comic book legend who co-created Spiderman and other renown characters including the Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men and many others) has created a video about Free Comic Day. Watch it now.
