Free Comic Book Day 2014 - Arizona

This year the annual Free Comic Book Day will happen on Saturday May 3rd. Many of the local stores have already announced what they will be doing to celebrate. Be sure to check this page for updates, as more information comes in.

All About has another great event planned this year with free face painting for the kids and lots of great superhero photo ops. Meet Spider-Man, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Batman, The Joker, Commissioner Gordon, and Supergirl. They are also raffling off a Superhero gift package valued at over $300.00, with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish foundation. With the purchase of a raffle ticket, you can also get 15% off of your purchase.

DTC will be hosting a FCBD Street Fair in downtown Glendale from 8am - 2pm. There will be artists, and cosplayers, a.rock wall. and FCBD deal at local restaurants. Plus in-store deals on everything spider-man, hourly drawing and giveaways. Just announced that the last raffle of the day(at 2pm) will be for Amazing Spider-Man #122.

UPDATED: Arizona United Soccer Club will be at DTC giving away tickets away to Saturday night, May 3rd's 7pm game.

The Brelby Theatre Company, located right across the street from Drawn to Comics, will be hosting a stage combat workshop celebrating Free Comic Book day. For a fee of $10 you can “Learn to punch, kick and slap with Brian Maticic. You'll be crafting your own (safe) fight sequences in no time!”

Artist alley will be opening at 10am, so be sure to Join the Facebook event page to stay up to with guest announcements. Joshua Green and Christopher Ness from Biker Mice from Mars, are scheduled to be there. Also colorist Bill Farmer will be there.

Enterprise will be opening at 9am, and will be having sales all day long. Plus, if you come dressed in costume you get 25% off a select item.

Hero Comics and Gaming / 13616 N 35th Ave / 602-843-6320

UPDATED: Hero comics will be hosting artists Andy Bohn, Bianca Thompson, Madame M, Matthew Goodall, and Vincent Deporter, at the store. Plus food, and free face painting for the kids.

Gotham City Comics & Coffee / 46 W Main Street / 480-649-3065

Gotham City Comics will be hosting comic artist Mike Mayhew at their store for Free Comic Book Day. Mike is the artist on the eight-issue series, “The Star Wars” form Dark Horse Comics.

The store will be opening at 10am, and the signings will be starting at noon.

FCBD starts at 12:01 am at Jeese James Comics and ends at midnight on Monday. Just like in years past, Jesse James Comics will having Free Comic Book Day all weekend long. This year, it is extended to 72 hours, with 10 free comics each day (3 FCBD titles, and 7 store copies). There is also pre party that starts at 10pm on Friday night.

They will also be debuting another store exclusive, Amazing Spider-Man #1 drawn by John Romita Sr. You can pre-pay for the Amazing Spider-Man variants now through the ebay store. Color version, B&W version, or both versions.

Store signings are also planned with writer Raven Gregory, and artist Nei Ruffino of The Secret Life of Crows, along with Tim Vigil who drew the store exclusive cover, colored by Nei.

UPDATED: Jesse James Comics has been announcing a ton of creators over the past 24 hours. So far over 45+ guests announced, or being announced. Check out their Event page, to keep up with all of the updates. and post parties planned at the store.

Eric Mengel of OCHO Comics will be debuting OCHO #30 for Free Comic Book Day only at Jesse James Comics.

The Very Awesome Girls PHX chapter will be there hosting Canine Sidekick tryouts from 10-2 at the store. For more information be sure check out their own Event page.

Pop Culture Paradise / 715 S Forest Ave / 480-557-6640
Pop Culture Paradise in Tempe, will be hosting a canned food drive to benefit St. Vincent DePaul. Just by visiting the store between 11am to 4pm, you can pick up 2 free comics, but bring a can of food and you can get 2 more comics.

At 5pm, they will be watching Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and for every can of food you bring in you can get 5% off board games and accessories, up to 25% for 5 cans. Plus a raffle and giveaways, and free pizza during the movie.

In addition to Free Comic Book Day events at all three locations, Samurai is also sponsoring the 3rd annual ACME - Arizona Comic Mini Expo. ACME will be hosted at the Samurai Comics in Mesa. You can also follow ACME on Facebook.

Stop on by any of the locations and get 3 free comics. The first 50 people at each store, will also get an exclusive print by Joel Gomez. You can get additional comics by coming in costume, and/or bringing in a canned food item. They have contests and giveaways as well.

Dr. Fantasy’s will be hosting Star Wars Clone Wars artist Tom Hodges. Tom does awesome work and he is currently taking pre-order commissions now at his Etsy Store, which you can then pick up from him in person of Free Comic Book Day.

The Very Awesome Girls PHX has partnered with the Sun Valley Animal Shelter, and will be at several stores giving away comics, and selling items to benefit the shelter. They will be appearing at:
