Free Comic Book Day 2011 part 02

Welcome back to Examiner.com’s continuing local coverage of Free Comic Book Day 2011. Yesterday, we took a look at some of the local events happening on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Stay tuned for an announcement below regarding an exclusive premiere coming Monday, May 9 regarding these very events.

Now, we take a look at what’s available. Several publishers, ranging from DC and Marvel to Dark Horse and IDW, among many others, will be offering a sampling of their respective wares as publishers to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. Below are some of the highlighted books up for grabs – for free, of course – on May 7 at a comic shop near you:

Airbender/Star Wars Flip Book

Dark Horse Comics presents two popular properties in one book. The Avatar story comes in time to get ready for the spin-off series Avatar: Legend of Korra coming later this year, and the Star Wars story features the new character Savage Opress as well as the Breakout Squad from the Clone Wars: Secret Missions novels.

Amazing Spider-Man

Marvel comics offers up writer Dan Slott and perennial favorite Humberto Ramos in a preview the huge Spider-Man arc coming later this summer. This issue features Madame Web and Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu in a shocking hint of what’s to come for Peter Parker.

Green Lantern Flashpoint

DC Comics presents two pieces of business in one big, free book! To get ready for the upcoming movie, a reprint of Green Lantern #30 is presented, showing how Hal Jordan received his power ring. Then, Johns and Kubert give us our first proper look at DC’s blockbuster for 2011, Flashpoint!

Be on the look-out this coming Monday, May 9 for the premiere of Count3rCu1ture, a new YouTube series for the little guy, by the little guy.
