There are other granny square patterns with the look of a circle in a square, but after spending considerable time searching but not finding exactly what I wanted, I decided to try to work up my own and offer it as a free crochet pattern.
This granny square pattern is a simple design that starts off as a circle and ends in a square shape. Crocheted following the pattern as written, the square will measure approximately 6" when a single crochet border is added. I think this granny square looks best worked in two contrasting colors.
Pattern Difficulty = Easy
Ch = chain
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
HDC = half double crochet
St = stitch
This pattern is provided free and may not be sold. You may sell the items you make from the pattern, but you may not sell the pattern. Feel free to share this pattern on your site or blog, but please link to this page - do not post the pattern itself.

This free 6" granny square pattern would make a lovely baby blanket or afghan, and if using cotton yarn, would be suitable for a hot pad or potholder in the kitchen also. Use up scraps of yarn to make this circle in the square pattern with one main color and many different contrasting colors for a unique, one of a kind blanket or afghan.
