The Bureau of land Management operated many areas around Barstow. Some areas have become almost an unofficial camping area. the Stoddard Wells Road is one such area. It is great for exercise since there are many areas to hike around. It is also great for exercise because you can go jogging on over 7 miles of dirt road that is relatively easy on the legs. The other great thing is that as you are hiking the wildlife views are out of this world. Typically you can stay about 14 days.
The drawback is that this is a great hiking and camping area about halfway between Victorville and Barstow. It is extremely popular with the ATV and the offroad motorcycle people so it tends to be very crowded and it also tends to be very populated. Additionally there are many that go to the abandon mines around here hoping for some forgotten rock or minerals.
