Free Barnes & Noble Event for Kids

Parents who want to encourage their children to read should check out events this weekend at two Barnes & Noble stores.

Billed as "a reading celebration for the whole family", The Big Brains Bookfair, will have readings from local authors and educational presentations.

The locations are Barnes & Noble at 14165 Hall Road in Shelby Township and the one at 396 John R in Troy.The Shelby Township book fair will be held on Oct. 12, and the Troy book fair on Oct. 13. On both days, the times will be 11 am-6 pm.

At both locations, local authors will read from their works, there will be puppet and dance shows and a clown. At Troy, there will also be a play, a poetry competition hosted by Oakland University, and free face painting.Free snacks will be offered, and educators can get other freebies as well. Teachers will also get a 10% discount.

The book fair will help provide school supplies for children attending school in low-income areas. A percentage of the sales from Oct. 12-17 will be donated to Michigan Friends of Education, as long as the book fair id of 11121563 is used online or in store.
