Free Art Education supplies for DC teachers

On Wednesday April 3, the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative (DHAHEC) announced that they are offering a limited number of free stipends for DC teachers to purchase art supplies from Plaza Artist Materials.

Once again the DC Collaborative has stepped up to fill a bit of the void in Arts Education in DC public and DC public charter schools. This is great news for Art teachers who typically spend their own money to buy quality specialty supplies for their students.

Partnering with Plaza Art, the Collaborative announced yesterday that they are pleased to offer any DC public school or charter school Art teacher the opportunity to apply for a stipend up to $150 in art supply donations to offset the cost of implementing Visual Art lessons in the classroom.

The Collaborative believes that,

'Ensuring students have access to high-quality Arts Education is critical to their achievement.

'Teachers should be afforded the opportunity to utilize high-quality art supplies to aid children in their educational development and learning.'

To that end, they teamed up with Plaza Art to make it a reality and to continue to provide "Arts for Every Student" in DC.

How teachers can apply:

"A limited number of stipends for art supplies are available to any DC public or charter school art teacher."

Applications will be accepted through the end of May via this on-line form. Supply donations up to $150 may be requested per teacher.

Upon acceptance of an application, teachers will be connected with Plaza Art manager Evan Sherman to coordinate the order and schedule a pick-up.

A copy of the Plaza Art supplies catalog can be supplied upon request. Applicants may also view products in the online store. Applications will be accepted until May 31.

The DC Collaborative believes that the arts—inclusive of music, visual arts, theater, dance, and literary arts—are central to the education of every student.

A community-based partnership organization, now 80 members strong, the DC Collaborative works to promote quality arts and humanities education for all DC public and chartered public schools for the growth of the whole child.

Working with their partners, the DC Collaborative produces such exemplary programs as Arts for Every Student, Professional Development, and the recently launched Arts Education Initiative.

All teachers are encouraged to find out more and join the Arts and Humanities collaborative. Find the DC Collaborative on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
