Free apps for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch today plus 'Shazam' gets free update

The free apps for iPhone iPad, and iPod Touch that are hot today include news that the iPhone app “Shazam” has a free new update that takes this app beyond identifying music and focuses on ease of use and sharing, according to a Feb. 10 report in Slashgear.com.

“Shazam”, famous for its ability to identify music or media that it hears playing—including a tune that it hears you humming—keeps getting better with features that help you discover new artists. This free update's new focus is on unlimited tagging. Once something is tagged you can:

  • Purchase the item from iTunes or share it with your friends on the “Shazam” social network

  • Access lyrics to sing along with streamed lyrics

  • Directly watch relevant music videos on YouTube

  • Receive unique recommendations

Also, “Shazam” has upgraded its news feed. Now besides news from artists, you also get new track releases and insider videos.

If you like taking photos and you're looking to turn photos into cash, then you'll want to download the free app, “Foap”. With this app you can either go on fun photo missions that Sony, MasterCard and other brands send you on or just put your photos on the “Foap” market. What's more, there are contests too. You can download this app from the iPhone-only section of the App Store.

The free app,“Couch Music Player” turns your iPad into a gesture-based juke box and organizes your digital library like never before. Just swipe a song to place it in a customized playlist and you can have as many playlists as your want. What's more, each family member can create their own playlists for the ultimate in personalized music collections. Besides a playlist tab, this app has tabs for genre, composer, compilations, audiobooks and podcasts.

“Shazam” is rated 12+ for profanity, references to alcohol, tobacco or drug use and suggestive themes. This free app requires iOS 6.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Foap” requires iOS 6.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Couch Music Player” requires iOS 5.0 and is compatible with iPad only.
