The other day, my daughter and I hit up Quaker Steak and Lube in Council Bluffs for lunch. We shared an entree, enjoyed some caramel apple nachos for dessert, she had a sprite to drink and I enjoyed a margarita--on the rocks, with salt. Our meal total?
25 cents.
Yup, enjoyed an entire meal, my daughter and me, for .25 cents (before a generous tip, of course!)
How did we do it?
The PinPoint card.
If you're not familiar with the PinPoint card, you should be. I signed up for it a few months ago. It is similar to a rewards card in which it gives you deals from local restaurants and bars. When I signed up for it, it was a payment card that linked to your checking account and allowed you to pay directly with the card. But PinPoint has recently released news that they are eliminating the payment portion and it is becoming strictly a rewards card!
The deals you get are great! First off, you get a "Welcome Reward" the first time you use it at a participating place. For example, the first time you use it at La Mesa Mexican Restaurant, you get $10 off of your tab. Each place has a welcome reward which could be a dollar amount off of your meal, a free entree, something to that extent. Then, each time you use the card after that, you get an "Instant Reward." La Mesa's instant reward is a free children's meal, or free queso and dip with purchase of two entrees. Then, you get a "Payback Reward," which is a reward for spending a certain amount at that location. Once you spend $100 at La Mesa using the PinPoint card, you receive a $20 reward. Additionally, many locations have Birthday and Anniversary Rewards, which is what I used at Quaker Steak and Lube--I was able to get $15 off of my purchase, in addition to a free dessert! Happy birthday to ME! :)
This card is amazing if you like a great deal! I'm a huge fan of the Welcome Rewards, as many of them are a dollar off of your first purchase, making it a great, affordable way to try someplace new. Once you continually return, you get to repeatedly enjoy the benefits visit after visit.
And it's not just restaurants, even though that's how it started. PinPoint is constantly adding new local merchants, including Vala's Pumpkin Patch, One Drake Place and Tregaron Oaks.
I cannot say enough good things about the PinPoint card--I have been extremely pleased since using it. However, I know many individuals were skeptical of offering up their checking account information in order to use the card. Now, PinPoint has removed this portion and it is strictly a rewards card that allows you to enjoy perks and points!
