The recent signing of the $1.1 trillion federal budget puts money back into government agencies and the contracting marketplace. With approximately $83 billion of the federal budget expected to be awarded to small business contractors in the coming year, now is the time for small business owners, especially women business owners, to get a piece of the government pie!

To help small businesses and women business owners get on a path to winning government contracts, American Express OPEN, the small business division of American Express, is hosting a free event in Phoenix on Tuesday, March 4th.

In May 2013, a new federal initiative called the Women-owned, Small Business Set Aside Program was announced which makes it easier for women business owners to compete and win larger government contracts. For years, a 5% goal aimed at encouraging organizations to contract with women business owners, but procurement officials didn't have the tool they needed to help set aside contracts until this new initiative was launched. At the Amex OPEN event, women business owners will learn how to become certified with this new program.

The American Express OPEN for Government Contracts Phoenix event is designed to help small business owners boost their business through government contracting. The full day program will provide attendees with resources and tools on ways to secure government contracts. At the event, participants will have the opportunity to learn insights from government contractors and officials, build business connections with government buyers, and gain a hands-on experience of the government contracting landscape.

The American Express OPEN for Government Contracts event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix from 8am to 5pm. Attending business owners will have access to:

  • Contract Connections: one-on-one meetings with local and federal government buyers, procurement officials, and large prime contractors;
  • Interactive workshops to give business owners the tools they need to succeed in government contracting – including why certifications will give your business a competitive edge; contracting for women-owned businesses, teaming best practices; how to work with prime contractors; and ways to get involved with local contracting opportunities;
  • Women business owners will learn about the special certification program, how to market to the federal government, how to compete for these large contracts and how to find the contracts;
  • A day of insights and best practices from government contracting experts – including representatives from the Department of Air Force, city of Phoenix, Maricopa County and the Department of Interior.

Attend the event and meet key purchasing decision-makers and experienced sellers.
