Want to be an opera star? Or are you just curious about life on the stages of the world's grandest opera houses?
Renowned international opera star Carol Vaness will tell you all about it in a master class for Opera Colorado at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on November 18.
Ms. Vaness launched her professional singing career at New York City Opera, where she appeared regularly from 1979 to 1983. Since then, she has sung on the world's most prestigious stages and at premier music festivals, collaborated with today's foremost conductors in operatic and symphonic repertoire, appeared on numerous television broadcasts throughout North America and Europe, and compiled a distinguished catalog of recordings.
Currently, Ms. Vaness is Professor of Music (Voice) for the opera program at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, as well as resident voice coach for Los Angeles Opera. She also works with the Canadian Opera Company's Young Artist Program as a Master Teacher, as a Distinguished Master Teacher with the University of Toronto and for the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.
Singing for her will be this year's Young Artists of Opera Colorado: Christie Hageman, soprano; Julia Tobiska, mezzo-soprano; Adam Ulrich, tenor; Benjamin Moore, baritone and Ryan Speedo Green, bass-baritone.
The Young Artists is a program that brings young professional opera singers directly into schools and other community venues throughout Colorado and nearby states. Each of these singers will perform in Opera Colorado's offerings this season.
The Master Class is from 7-9 p.m. and is free to the public. For more information, contact OC's education department at 303-778-7350 or visit www.operacolorado.org.
