This weekend is the annual free weekend at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Art Museum

Cheekwood's gardens are a great place to visit in the fall.  They have an herb garden full of useful plants you could grow in your own back yard, a Japanese garden, and several other themed gardens perfect for a family picnic.  There's also a mile long sculpture trail which winds through the woods and is a easy hike even for toddlers.  Places to take great photos for the family album are scattered thorough the area.

Even if you aren't into fall foilage, it's worth the trip just to see the scarecrows on display until November 1.  The exhibit includes 65 scarecrows scattered throughout the grounds.  Local community organizations designed and sponsored the scarecrows.  Participants include several area girl scout troops, the Nashville Zoo, Nashville Symphony, local 4-H groupds, and the Nature Conservancy.

Cheekwood also has an art museum in their historic Georgian-style mansion on the property.  Currently they have several exhibits including a Faberge collection.

Admission is usually $10 per adult and $5 for kids 6 through 17, and the free weekend is a very popular annual event.  So show early and enjoy the scenery before the crowds arrive.  If you can't make it this weekend, it's worth the cost of admission.

Thanks so much for the info! I hate to say, we have been in the Nashville area 10 years, and have not been yet.
