In keeping with the season of fall and Halloween, become unnerved and listen to tales that will excite and frighten. Take a tour through a dark cemetery and experience chills in New York state. Head to Fredonia’s Forest Hill Cemetery on Lambert Avenue.
Book a tour by horse-drawn trolley through the cemetery. Learn about heroes and scary villains. Your guide will be Lt. Colonel Alonzo Cushing, acted by Fredonia’s Town Historian Todd Langworthy. On October 18 and 19, horse-drawn tours leave on the hour at 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. under Lanworthy’s guidance. Perhaps you’d be more captivated by Wayne Ashley who spins seasonal tales each hour at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. The tours are most informative and entertain – they are recommended for anyone ages 8 and up.
The ride is a seasonal treat and the refreshments are the perfect touch at the Gazebo in Barker Commons West at the end of the tour. Reservations are required because seating on the trolleys are limited. Cost for a ticket is $12.50 [refreshments included] and reservations can be called in to the TimePieces Gift Shop at 716-672-4818.
If you enjoy the season, here’s another fun event: Saturday, October 19 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. enjoy participating in the Sixth Annual Fredonia Zombie Crawl being produced this year by the Zombie Fans volunteers. They say,
When the night falls, the dead will walk the earth.
All ages are may attend the Zombie Crawl – human or zombie. Zombification will occur from 8 to 9 p.m. including Zombie make-up and clothes for a suggested donation of $2.00. This is followed by the Zombie Olympics at 8:30 and at 9:30 p.m. Stay around for the Zombie Mass Photo and judging for Zombie King and Queen and then for the grand Zombie finalie – the Zombie Crawl at 9:45 p.m. This is the shamble/promenade leading Zombie participants through downtown Fredonia, hailing the 2013 Zombie King and Queen. It will be time to head back to a Zombie Party at EBC West, Zombie Party headquarters.
This year the "Zombie Fans" volunteer group will be accepting donations for the local Food Pantry and the Pet Pantry including; bags, boxes, treats or cans of food, (animal, human or brains for the undead) pet beds, crates, carriers, bowls, or toys (new or used). All food must be unopened.
