“Fred the Frog Finds a Friend” by Courtney M Jones is a picture book about a lonely frog who embarks upon a journey in search of a meal. Fred discovers a pond with flies that would make for a perfect meal but a mean orange fish who resides in the pond will not allow Fred to come into the water. All hope for Fred seems lost until a tiny beetle comes to the rescue and convinces the fish to view the situation from Fred’s perspective and the fish becomes empathic to Fred and allows the little frog to dine. Fred makes a friend and a wonderful lesson is learned about empathy.

This book teaches the great lesson of empathy. This book is truly one that a child will want to read over and over. It is a great addition to any early primary classroom. As a children’s reading specialist and educator I highly recommend this book.” – Lorraine Carey – Author, Children’s Reading Specialist and Teacher.
